A stroke happens when blood flow to an area of the brain is restricted. When this happens brain cells are deprived of oxygen and begin to die. The brain cells controlled by that area of the brain such as memory and muscle control are lost. It is important that stroke patients begin physical therapy very soon after the stroke so that the best results can be achieved. The therapy sessions will focus on a wide range of treatment depending on the severity of the stroke. Treatments can consist of addressing balance issues, manual therapy to increase range of motion and relax muscles, neuromuscular reeducation, and strength training.
