Are you experiencing muscle sprains or joint pains? It may be time for you to visit a physical therapist. A physical therapist will help alleviate your pain and strengthen your bones and muscles.
We’ve made a checklist for you to follow to prepare for your visit to the physical therapist.
1. Note Down All Your Symptoms:
It is always a good idea to list all the problems you are currently facing. This would help you get a better idea of what issues you want to work on. Your physical therapist will ask you what your problem areas are. And if you provide them with an exhaustive list, they would be able to customize your exercise plan accordingly.
2. Prepare All the Questions You Have:
We’re sure you have questions like “how long will the treatment take?” or “how much will it cost?” It’s a good idea to list all these questions in one place so that you don’t forget to ask these during your visit. You can also discuss what you expect from the sessions and set goals for noticeable improvement.
3. Gather All Your Medical History Files:
The more details you give, the more informed decisions your therapist can make. Hence, it is advised that you take all your previous reports with you. If you have a doctor’s prescription for physical therapy, bring that along as well. Bring along any X-rays or MRIs, especially if you’re visiting after a recent injury.
4. Take Any Other Relevant Stuff:
This is a vague statement, we know. But “relevant stuff” would include any insurance documents or other medically relevant documents. Also, it is advisable to wear comfortable clothing when starting your therapy. If you’re not wearing such clothes, make sure you carry them with you in case you have to change.
5. Book an Appointment:
Physical therapists do not take walk-ins usually. Hence, it’s best to book an appointment beforehand. In case of a first visit, also research about which place you want to go to. Search online and check out their services.
